(ALBION) - Candy distributed to students at Central Noble Primary School tested negative for THC and marijuana-related substances.

The Noble County Sheriff's Office says the investigation began May 27 after a Central Noble staff member reported candy had been given to students in bags with labels suggesting the contents contained marijuana.

School administrators collected the candy from students and began an investigation.

Investigators determined the packaging and candy had been purchased separately. The bags arrived empty, appeared new and unused, and there was no indication marijuana products had ever been inside them.

The sheriff's office says investigators found no evidence of criminal intent by the employee who distributed the candy.

Out of caution, and in cooperation with the Noble County Prosecutor's Office, candy samples were sent to an independent lab for testing.

The sheriff's office received confirmation from the lab June 16 that the candy tested negative for THC and all marijuana-related substances.

The results confirmed the candy was safe and did not contain marijuana.
